SOP.COL.03.06 Pre-Donation Testing (Packed Cell Volume and Total Solids) Canine (Lab/Dist)
The following course will cover Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) SOP.COL.03.06
The purpose of SOP.COL.03.06 is to train you with regards to:
- Packed Cell Volume (PCV) which is determined by centrifuging anti-coagulated blood in a capillary tube (microhaematocrit tube). This separates the blood into layers. The volume of packed red blood cells divided by the total volume of blood tested gives the PCV
- Total Solids (TS) measures the amount of dissolved solids in plasma when compared to water using a refractometer
Restrictions for this SOP
- This SOP may only be carried out unsupervised by PBB staff who have been trained in this procedure
- Clean Pet Blood Bank UK uniform with name badge should be worn
Please Note: Some of the associated documents or forms referred to in this SOP will be included in the lesson, however, if there are documents of forms that are relevant to your role you should access them on Sharepoint to complete your training
